Claudia was always at home on grass with her dynamic serve and volley game, her greatest grass court victory was the Wimbledon Doubles with Helena in 1987. Also won the Birmingham Singles title, defeating Pam Shriver in 1985. |

Other Career highlights, was winning a 'Bronze' medal in the 1988 Olympics..reached 4 in the world in 1985, and famous also for inflicting a rare first round defeat on Martina Navratilova in Oakland 1981.Won numerous doubles titles with Helena Sukova, and was only overshadowed by Martina and Pam for a long time. |

Marcella's only major singles tournament title was in Oklahoma in 1988..but was very succesful in Doubles, winning titles with Christiane Jolissaint (Switzerland)and Marcella's highest ranking was 31.

Marcella did a lot or work for Womens Tennis, serving on the WTA Board for six years, four years as Secretary.Received the Players Service Award in 1986 and Sportsmanship award in 1984. |

Marcella represented the Netherlands in the Federation Cup 1980-1985,1987 and was No 1. for the Netherlands from 1981-86, and won many National Titles.

Footnotes;....
I was fortunate that only 'once' did I see Claudia and Marcella play each other, in Amelia Island..also the same with Manuela and Katerina at Eastbourne...but there is the favourite moment at the Fed Cup in Prague, when Claudia played Manuela..and I only clapped when they 'crossed' for the changeover !!! I really wanted a draw !!! |
